7 ways to boost self confidence and feel more confident

We are all in the need of self confidence boost some time or the other. Self confidence comes from the inside, but there are many external things you can do to boost it. In this post, I am sharing 7 ways to boost your confidence as well as your mood.

I like to use each of these at different times based on my situation and mood. Last time when I faced a self confidence crisis, I simply opened my phone and read the news and I felt wise. It is crazy but it can definitely boost your self confidence.

1. Self Reflection

If you have been around for a while, you know how obsessed I am about self reflection. Self reflection helps you dig deep into you personality and identify your qualities and drawbacks.

This method is suitable when you have faced a prolonged spell of low  self confidence. It is much more deeper than the other methods because it works from the inside whereas the other methods work from the outside.

2. Help Others

If you are thinking ‘How can I help others when I am barely able to help myself?’, let me walk you through this one. As selfish as it sounds, helping others makes your image as a generous person. If you are a FRIENDS fan, remember how Joey says there there is no selfless good deed because it always makes you feel good.

I have talked about ‘one good deed’ concept in 7 life changing habits and I will quickly refresh the same. You don’t need to do some big charity or save someone’s life to do a good deed. You can simply buy a homeless person a meal, help your colleague with his presentation or do some chores for your partner. This will improve your self image and make you feel more confident.

3. Dress Well

This one is very materialistic in comparison to the first two ways but it is equally powerful. Everytime I find doubting myself, I wear boss clothes to work and feel like I am winning in life. This is a quick fix for those distressing mornings.

Although it sounds shallow, it has great ability to make you feel uplifted. Have you heard about the concept that if you smile when you are feeling upset, then you will end up feeling cheerful. This method works on similar lines which means, if you are not feeling confident, dress confident!

4. Pursue a hobby

You probably know that having a hobby can be stress relieving, but let me tell you how can it boost self confidence. If you have a hobby or something that extra that you know, it makes your personality stronger.

Have you ever wondered why the cool and confident kids in your school were always good at extracurriculars? They knew something outside of what others know and that brought great confidence in them. Same principle works on us as adults.

If you already have a hobby, start spending more time on it and make a weekly or daily ritual out of it. If you don’t necessarily have a hobby, start exploring. The best place to do this is on Skillshare. Use my link to get 2 months subscription completely free on Skillshare.

5. Read the news

This maybe the last thing you want to hear me say but I have a solid reason. We face so many social situations all throughout the day and we have to get involved in so many social interactions. When a group of colleagues at your work place, school or even a party are talking about some recent happenings, it is empowering to be able to present your thoughts.

When you know about the subject that is in the news, you are perceived as wise by everyone around you and it affects your own judgement about yourself. This is a very simple and maybe even boring task but it can never hurt to be smart!

6. Positive affirmations

This method is especially useful if you want to bring about a transformation in yourself. People use affirmations in various ways such as printing out quotes, writing them down or saying it out loud. The core concept is to train your subconscious mind to believe in the things you wish to have.

I have talked about Jake Ducey’s theory to hack your subconscious which is through positive statements in my post titled ‘3 techniques to Master your Mindset’. Check that post out to get a deeper view into affirmation practices.

7. Clean your environment

Your mind sees you as a reflection of your environment which includes your spaces, relationships, body and mind. Take some time to clear out the mess in all these areas.

Organize your life, plan your goals and clean your spaces. These actions can easily boost your self confidence and bring you closer to the life of your dreams. When you get done with these activities, you feel like you have accomplished something and it boosts your confidence.

These were my favorite ways to give my self confidence a quick boost. Taking care of yourself is also one of the best ways to improve your confidence in the long run. If you have any other ideas, make sure to leave them in the comments section below.
